Most years we’ve lived in Atlanta, I’ve taken my wife to Waffle House for Valentine’s Day. This is more fun than it sounds; they put down a white tablecloth and candles, and in some places the servers even suit up.
She was diligently house-hunting in Tampa on Valentine’s Day this year, so I called the Waffle House we usually visit that one time a year and I asked them if they still had any tablecloths and candles left over. They did! And, knowing our story of romance delayed, would they be willing to set a table for us, say Saturday at 6pm? They would!
I told her we have a Valentine’s Day dinner reservation at 6pm tomorrow night. “Where is it?” Um… it’s a surprise. “It’s not Waffle House, is it?” Um… yeah? “Aw, I don’t want to go to Waffle House! I only like going there for Valentine’s Day because they use tablecloths and candles and the waiters dress up!” Um… well… the thing is… they have leftover tablecloths and candles and I asked them to fix a table for us because you were in Tampa and they said they’d be glad to but I don’t think the servers are going to dress up. ”Wellll… I’ll let you know.”
One of these days I am going to plan a romantic surprise that she DOESN’T guess!!! Or maybe not. She knows me SO well. <3
…Y’all think a 50% tip is enough for something like this?
